So wedding planning has picked up again. This evening my future-mother-in-law, future groom and I picked out songs for all of the special dances. Thanks to a few lists on line (like this one or the one from our band) and the help of YouTube to listen to samples, it didn’t take too long. Earlier this week I did a cake tasting with The Cake Studio and it was fantastic! The cake will be a chocolate ganache and fresh raspberry filling between vanilla and chocolate cake with a buttercream icing. It’ll be 5 tiers with each tier designed around elements from my dress – I’m pretty excited about the cake!
Here are some of the cake photos that inspired me:

The top two photos are from The Cake Studio website and the bottom two photos were taking by my mom at a bridal show.
As for a cake topper, I spend time checking some out and didn’t really find any that I loved. I did find some funny ones such as this one:
So for now the top of the cake will be icing flowers (as I’m not really psyched with having fresh flowers on something I plan on eating).
And as promised here are the plethora of links:
- Planning a Reception: My future mother-in-law asked me tonight what time the wedding reception is starting, my response was 4 pm or 5 pm depending on the day someone asks me. I’m having a tough time deciding! I found this site that had some nice visual timelines: http://www.nuptialnet.com/timeline.htm I also just received the book, The Best Wedding Reception…Ever! today from Amazon. So far it looks like it contains some good info.
- Postage: I’m debating whether or not to buy some of these cutesy looking stamps: http://www.zazzle.com/theknot/gifts?st=popularity&ps=60 who knew you could make custom stamps! I’m not so excited about the stamps saying Zazzle on them but I do think the images are cute (and oh so super girly). I’m sure grooms everywhere gag at these kinds of things which is why I haven’t asked Nick for his opinion on the stamps! By the way postage is increasing to $0.44 on May 11th, great…
- Exercise and Eating: The best way to lose weight? Get engaged! In the past 2 months I think I’ve lost 4 lbs (that’s a lot for me)! Thanks to my Zumba classes with Lindsay and Colleen on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It’s amazing how many bridal-lose-weight-programs there are!! The Knot had a pretty practical program: http://wedding.theknot.com/wedding-beauty-tips/wedding-workout-exercise/articles/six-month-fitness-makeover.aspx?cm_ven=Responsys&cm_cat=KnotNews&cm_pla=20090427&cm_ite=NA and recently I’ve found the Hungry Girl site and crack up at the updates and food information.
- Wedding Advice: I love this blog www.apracticalwedding.com My favorite two posts had some great advice:
- I already know my wedding won’t be “my perfect day” or “the happiest day of my life” (talk about pressure!), I just want it to be a fun, memorable day with all of the people that I love (and the one that I love the most!) So I like this post: http://www.apracticalwedding.com/2008/04/thoughts-from-world-wedding-websurfing.html
- And then in this post Miss Manners confirms these sane-bride thoughts http://www.apracticalwedding.com/2008/03/credit-where-credit-is-due-or-some.html
- Sports stuff (and not wedding related): I’m a big fan of Mark Titus, notorious OSU benchwarmer. His blog, Club Trillion, is quite entertaining and finally answers the question that my college roommate, Christine and I used to ask “I wonder what Scooney’s [Penn] doing??” I know Mark isn’t necessarily Scooney BUT he’s super entertaining and probably would have made more of an impact on the NBA than Scooney has! I check this page every morning to see how the Red’s are doing. Nick’s a big Red’s fan and I love numbers and graphs so it’s a win-win.
Well we have Pre-Cana in the morning at chuch (or as we are calling it our Day Long Date!!) so I’m off to bed!!
